Hi, I'm Erika, wife to Chris and mom/teacher/mentor to Zekariah (age 14 w/Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), Hypotonia (low muscle tone), Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, Biblical Savant & Ancient history buff), Luke (age 12, w/ADHD, SPD, Dyslexia, poor vision & slight lazy eye, gifted in several areas), & Daniel (age 8, w/Asperger's Syndrome, SPD, Dyslexia, very gifted in several areas & behavioral issues due to perfectionism). I've been advocating, writing & speaking about homeschooling in general and also the specific needs of homeschooling special needs and/or gifted children since 1999. I've also self-published 2 books and am working on my 3rd. I'm interested in tutoring others, teaching in a school and starting a private school. I have 30 years of experience teaching 5th through 12th grade public school, and would like to be a guest teacher for groups of students with common interests. Lessons can range from Shakespeare to the Constitution, Theater Makeup to Beginning Spanish, Beginning Knitting, The Miracle Worker, or the American Civil Rights movement. Depending on the age & topic, classes range from one to two hours. Cost for a class of 10 to 14 students would be $100 per hour, but rates for each class would be worked out individually. Guest artists for certain activities would have separate charges - but SO worth it! Posted 3-3-06

I homeschool my 7 and 4 year old sons in Yorba Linda. We are using a classical approach as outlined in The Well Trained Mind by Susan Wise Bauer. I earned a teaching credential and taught in both public and private schools before having children. I also have experience tutoring children of all ages in core subject matter.
