Classical Conversations is a national classical and Christian homeschooling program seeking to empower parents. I am currently helping CC start groups/communities all over Los Angeles County. Two years ago, I became involved with Classical Conversations in Bellflower, California. I thought I was doing it for my children and for their future education. But quickly it became clear to me that Classical Conversations was in the business of helping me weekly to redeem my own education so that I could do the hard, but rewarding work of teaching my children myself.

Classical Conversations meets once a week, providing weekly accountability, encouragement, and structure that supplement and support what is being taught at home.
On a weekly basis, we offer Foundations, Essentials, and Challenge programs in local communities.

Foundations is for ages 4-12. We meet weekly for 24 weeks each year. We work on memory work in history, math, Latin, English grammar, science, and geography. We also do science experiments and fine arts projects together as well as oral presentations. Students are placed in classes of 8 with a paid tutor who is also a homeschooling mom.

Essentials is for 4th-6th graders. We meet in the afternoon after Foundations from 1:15-3:15. We spend 45 minutes on intensive English grammar, 30 minutes on a “Math Slam” competition, and 45 minutes on Institute for Excellence in Writing assignments. The kids love it, and the parents have been delighted with the boost that Essentials provides to their children’s academics.

Challenge is for 7th-12th graders. Students meet with a tutor weekly for 30 weeks each year to study core subjects such as literature, history, science with labs, math, logic, debate, theology, geography, and two foreign languages. Emphasis during class time is on discussion, presentation and lab work with students taking responsibility for additional research, reading, and assignments throughout the week.

Currently there is only one Classical Conversations group/community in LA County, but with the Lord’s help and blessing, I’d like to share with this area what CC has to offer. I’d like to offer a free 3-day logic practicum and to present our weekly programs in information meetings all over the County . LearningRx, with centers in Mission Viejo and San Juan Capistrano provides cognitive skills training for students aged 5 and up. Unlike tutoring, which attempts to reteach academic information that your child should already have learned, our program first identifies the underlying cognitive skill deficiencies(e.g. attention, memory, reasoning,visual and auditory processing,)and then corrects them through our one-on-one brain-training programs. We have several home-schoolers in our programs and offer field trips for home schoolers.

We are a full-time academy and classical homeschool ISP. We provide both administrative ISP services to classical homeschoolers and teacher trainings and curriculum consultation. Our daily chapel, field trips and extension classes are open to classical homeschoolers. A pre-school group meets the first and third Monday of the month.

Classical Christian multi-age one-room schoolhouse offering grades 2-8. We use a four year looping cirriculum based on an historical timeline. We offer science, history, Bible, Art, Latin, Literature, reading groups, writing programs and memorization program. We are located on a the beautiful campus of the William Carey International University. This school is a one-of-a-kind. There are very few like it in the United States. It harkens back to a bygone era of smaller well-taught, individualized learning schools. We do require parent participation. We meet T-Th from 8-2pm and the students continue their studies at home on Mondays and Fridays.

I have 30 years of experience teaching 5th through 12th grade public school, and would like to be a guest teacher for groups of students with common interests. Lessons can range from Shakespeare to the Constitution, Theater Makeup to Beginning Spanish, Beginning Knitting, The Miracle Worker, or the American Civil Rights movement. Depending on the age & topic, classes range from one to two hours. Cost for a class of 10 to 14 students would be $100 per hour, but rates for each class would be worked out individually.
