I hope to start a parent run school at the high school level, and am looking for teachers, and other interested families with students entering 9th grade in Fall 2009. It will operate very much like a private school. Students will wear uniforms, should have excellent character and be capable of rigorous academics. We will need teachers for 4 years of high school level college prep in the following areas: math, science, wrtiting/grammar, great books curriculum, history, latin, music, SAT prep as a formal course, logic, rhetoric, drawing/painting, and drama. I am a parent of a child who was expelled from Stafford County schools. They offered the alternative school in Fredericksburg,VA. but I find that place not a good alternative after my visit to the Alternative School. I am looking for someone to home school my daugher Nicole who is 17. She was in her Junior year of school. My wife and I work during the day and was looking for someone to help her get her requiremtns completed so she can graduate next year. She is eligible to apply back to school this summer for early re-entry. Can you help or know of someone willing to help? I can bring her to you or you can come to the house to provide school work.

St. Bede's Latin School, a classical Christian school in Charlottesville, is set to open in the autumn of 2006. We offer instruction in Latin, Greek, math, logic, music, drawing, history, and literature. In its first year, St. Bede's is accepting students in grades 6th through 8th; but one grade will be added each year for four years, completing a middle and high school program. Our schedule is three days a week, Tuesday through Thursday, giving families ample time to supplement and enrich their children's studies.

I am a former elementary and preschool teacher with my BS.Ed. I have been classically homeschooling for two years. My son is 17 and using a Great Books based curriculum, and my daughter is 7, following much of the recommendations from The Well-Trained Mind. I can offer advice to those of you starting up, and am also offering tutoring services this summer. I taught my daughter to read using lots of phonics and lots of reading aloud--she is now breezing thru chapter books like Caddie Woodlawn as a first grader! It's an amazing process--can't take all the credit, but I know our method works.

I am a certified special education teacher in Virginia, and have taught preschool, elementary, and middle schoolin team taught, resource, and self contained classrooms. Currently, I am working at a day center for people with disabilites. My position has changed from teaching adults funtional skills to supervising staff and doing paperwork. I miss teaching students with disabilities, and looking to go back to teaching. I have experience with ABA, TEACCH, sensory activities, and VB.
