St. Gregory's is a classical, Catholic homeschool cooperative that meets on Thursdays for 30 weeks during the school year and offers classes in Latin, writing, history and science. We meet at the historic St. John church in Orange, NJ drawing families throughout Northern New Jersey - Union, Essex, Hudson, Somerset, Morris, Passaic, Bergen and Sussex Counties. Classes start in September and run through May.

This current school year another hs mom and myself are starting a Classical Co-op (currently 14 families) that we want to evolve into a Cottage School at the upper grades. We started homeschooling August 2007 after a mostly boring year in kindergarten. DD 7, MG arts lover and voracious reader. DW has taught public school music for 21 years. DH is the full time homeschooling father by week / SAT prep tutor by weekend. Our approach is a secular bent on a classical curriculum, with a healthy dose of nature, play, and performing/visual arts mixed in. We expect to finish first and second grade this year. A heartfelt thank you to all the homeschool moms out there who aren't nearly as flipped out in the presence of a competent dad as are many public school moms.

A hornbook was the 1st primer in colonial times and gave students the foundation to learn. The American Hornbook Company provides today's students with the foundations, that is, the "need to know" facts for learning in all subject areas. Covenant Classical Academy is a new school in Somerset County with plans to open its doors in Fall of 2008 with grammer and dialetic grades along with homeschool courses. A thoroughly Christian Worldview will be taught through all disciplines following the classical model.

We are currently in need of (possibly volunteer?) full time teachers, and part time teachers of Latin, Art and middle school Science.

The King is the Thing is a unique chess club which teaches important life skills through chess instruction. Along with step-by-step lessons in the fundamentals of chess, children will learn how God's Word can help us make "all the right moves" in our daily lives.

The King is the Thing is designed for children ages 8-12, with or without previous experience in chess. The club meets on Thursday evenings from 6:00-7:00 at Fellowship Bible Church, located at 109 New Amwell Road in Hillsborough. The eight club sessions will be held on May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, and June 7, 14, 21. The program is absolutely free, although space is limited and registration is therefore encouraged.

Using national and state standards as guidelines, the hornbooks provide students with the "need to know" facts. Great for basic knowledge, test prep, and to take on vacations. Level 1 reading level is geared to elementary, Level 2 at the middle school level.
